GRITS
GRITS
Bloody Butcher Dent is an heirloom variety of dent corn that has been grown in the Appalachian Mountains for generations. Its kernels are deep red with a white internal starch. Flakes of red bran lend a unique depth of flavor and texture. The grits are coarsely ground in accordance with stoneground tradition.
Cooking Instructions: Bring 3 cups water to a boil. Slowly whisk in 1 cup grits to boiling water. Reduce heat to low, and stir often for approximately 30 min or until creamy. Season to taste.
We recommend using our products as soon as possible in order to enjoy the benefits of fresh flour, but if storing longer than 2 weeks, we recommend freezing or refrigerating for maximum shelf-life.
NOTE 1: By definition, heirloom crops are non-GMO. Additionally, GMO’s cannot be used in organic agriculture.
NOTE 2: All of our milled products are processed on the same equipment as wheat. While corn is a gluten-free grain, this product will contain trace amounts of wheat.
